A clever man has left social media gobsmacked with his brilliant method to stop boiling pasta water from spilling over.

We’ve all been there. One moment you’re keeping an eye on the bubbling pot, and suddenly, you’re in a frenzy trying to tackle any overflow.

Sure, turning down the heat might be the usual fix, but imagine being able to leave the burner on full blast without a hitch?

That’s where this chap and his astounding ice cube hack come in – it’s an eye-opener that TikTok fans are hailing as a kitchen necessity they’re eager to test out for themselves, reports the Mirror.

TikTok user @Lifehacks, who saw their clip hit an astonishing five million views, couldn’t contain their excitement: “Mind blown. I didn’t believe it, so I had to try it myself!”

Just as the boiling water nears the brink of the pot, in goes an ice cube, swiftly taming the bubbles and stops any spillage from the saucepan.

One fan of the trick commented: “That’s a cool hack! Great video.”

Whilst another offered a different tactic, saying: “I pour a bit of cold water in when it’s ready to boil over.”

A further individual anticipated incorporating the hack in their routine, adding: “Oh wow I’m gonna use this because almost every time I have an overspill. Thank you.”

Others shared alternative solutions, including one person who suggested: “You can also lay a wooden spoon across the top of the pot and it won’t boil over.”

Another individual recalled teaching their 74-year-old mother this method, leaving her astonished.

Some people were perplexed by the ice cube trick, with one person commenting: “Doesn’t everyone know that cooling down boiling water stops it from boiling over!”

Although the ice cube trick may seem like magic, it is grounded in science.

According to physics.stackexchange.com, when a pot of water is placed on a stove and the burner is turned on, the heat source heats up rapidly, but the water takes time to boil.

This delay is due to the time it takes for the heat from the burner to be transferred throughout the pot of water.

The site continued: “When you add the ice cube to the boiling water, you very quickly cool off the boiling water which will cause the water to stop boiling. It will then take some time for the heat from the burner to heat the water back up to boiling.”
