Countless people opt to purchase items online as it provides a straightforward and hassle-free shopping experience; nevertheless, regardless of how practical it may be, it can prove incredibly frustrating when deliveries vanish without a trace. One man recently encountered precisely this predicament as parcels had been “vanishing” from his doorstep for several weeks, creating such a headache that he began pointing the finger at his neighbour.
We frequently encounter tales of nightmarish neighbours, yet this particular account arrives with an unexpected twist. Whilst he remained convinced his neighbour possessed sticky fingers, the actual culprit proved to be a rather surprising suspect. He recently shared his tale on Reddit, leaving readers absolutely flummoxed.
Despite hastily accusing his neighbour, he confessed his suspicions proved “completely wrong.” This isn’t the first occasion a parcel drama has unfolded between neighbours either.
The unnamed man penned: “For weeks, I noticed packages disappearing from my porch. Small stuff at first. A book, then some kitchen items. I was convinced it was my neighbour. He’s always hanging around outside and, honestly, I never trusted him.
“One day, I decided to set up my camera to catch him in the act but, when I checked the recording, I couldn’t believe what I saw. It wasn’t my neighbour at all. It was a stray dog that had figured out how to pull packages off the porch.”
He added: “And here’s the craziest part. When animal control finally caught him, they discovered he had dragged ALL my missing packages into a little corner behind the building, as if he was ‘collecting’ them. Every single item was still there.
“I felt so guilty for suspecting my neighbour. The next day, I baked him cookies and explained everything. He laughed so hard he nearly cried. Now, he brings the dog food whenever he sees it around.”
As expected, the tale has caused quite a stir online, with scores of people commenting on the post. Several were left completely stunned by what unfolded.
One person responded with humour, writing: “Plot twist, the neighbour has been teaching stray dogs how to steal packages all over the neighborhood.”
Another chimed in with: “My cat steals my packages from wherever they get placed in the house and drags them under my bed.” A third also observed: “You should adopt the dog and get it some toys and enjoy its company.”
However, others remained sceptical about the tale, believing it seemed rather far-fetched. One person questioned how the dog remained in the area after being collected by animal control, prompting the original storyteller to respond.
He simply answered: “Good question. Animal control didn’t keep him, they just checked him out, made sure he wasn’t injured or aggressive and then released him since he didn’t have an owner. He still roams the neighbourhood sometimes, but now everyone looks out for him and keeps their packages way higher up.”
When someone asked why anyone, or the neighbour, didn’t spot the dog before, an explanation was also provided as to why he may have gone unnoticed. It’s claimed the dog was “super sneaky”, and would often pop round when no one was watching.
