Stormy winds of up to 50mph are set to hit Santa Barbara, the home town of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, this weekend. Weather agencies have issued a warning to California residents, as Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties could see stormy weather from Friday afternoon into Saturday morning, weather agencies warn.
The National Weather Service said: “Northwest to north winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph expected. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult.”
Rain was reported in Koreatown and Atwater Village on Friday morning but more severe showers are also possible near the northern Ventura and LA County border with Kern County, according to the National Weather Service in Oxnard. The Weather Service issued a wind advisory for portions of Santa Barbara County, saying that sundowner winds could gust up to 50mph in the Santa Ynez Mountains and foothills, along with the coasts west of Goleta.
The weather warning will be in effect from Friday afternoon until 5am on Saturday, October 4.
In addition, The Weather Channel reports that strong winds will create dangerous sea conditions, which could capsize or damage small and large vessels in the East Santa Barbara Channel.
Mariners have been told to alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions and to either remain in port, seek safe harbour, or alter course, securing any vessels in preparation for severe conditions.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit the royal family in 2020 and eventually resided in Montecito, California, where they live with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Located on the Central Coast of California, Montecito sits between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Montecito is best known as a celebrity enclave, owing to its concentration of prominent residents.
A source previously told Vogue that Harry and Meghan “were both drawn to the smaller town of Santa Barbara, where they can integrate into the community while having some distance and privacy.”
Harry and Meghan live in a a £11 million mega-mansion in Montecito, California, on an 18,000-square-foot property surrounded by trees and greenery.
