'Magic' item removes yellow stains from toilet seats and prevents future staining

Unfortunately, toilet seats are prone to staining which can make even the cleanest toilet appear grubby.

Limescale, makeup, fake tan, oils and even cleaning products can cause unpleasant stains on toilet seats.

While it may be tempting to leave toilet stains, not dealing with the problem can make the staining worse.

With this in mind, experts have shared a household item that can be used to remove stains from toilet seats – WD-40.

While the popular product is not the first thing that pops into people’s minds when it comes to cleaning, it is multi-purpose.

The product is especially effective on hard water and rust stains on toilet seats.

A WD-40 spokesperson said: “When you use WD-40 on your toilet seat, the product starts as a liquid and penetrates the rust particles while dealing with the surface they have accumulated on.

“The liquid then evaporates into a gaseous form, loosening the rust from the surface and making it easier for you to wipe it off.”

WD-40 works by creating a seal around the affected areas which stops the stains from sticking to the surface and getting stained again.

The expert added: “With the highly potent liquid, you can get yourself a sparkling clean toilet within a few minutes.”

How to use WD-40 to remove toilet seat stains

1. Spray the product sparingly on the stained areas of the toilet seat.

2. Allow the liquid to sit and “work its magic” for around eight to 10 minutes.

3. Next, take a brush and scrub the liquid along with the stains from the seat.

4. The stains should easily be removed. Repeat the process if the stains do not come off the first time.

Cleaning enthusiasts can also use white vinegar and baking soda to remove unpleasant stains from toilet seats.

Simply make a paste using equal parts bicarbonate of soda and distilled white vinegar and leave it to sit on the stains for 10 to 30 minutes.
