Lorraine sparks uproar over on air claim after emotional Harry's solo trip without Meghan

Lorraine Kelly suggested Prince Harry arriving solo to St Paul’s Cathedral was unsurprising in an on-air claim. It comes as the Duke of Sussex was pictured in London to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games without any royals attending.

Meghan Markle did not join her husband on his UK trip but they will reunite for their tour of Nigeria in the coming days. While Harry did not meet with King Charles or Prince William during his flying visit, he was joined by members of the Spencer family, including Princess Diana’s siblings Lady Jane Fellowes and Earl Spencer.

But ITV viewers were left fuming after the broadcaster claimed it would be hard for Harry to “rebuild the trust” with his loved ones, which may explain his brother and father’s absence from the Invictus ceremony.

“I honestly don’t know how you’re going to get them together,” Lorraine remarked.

ITV’s royal editor Russell Myers replied: “Yes if Invictus wasn’t the one to bring them together… what is?”

Breaking pacts, breaking agreements, constant briefings, planted stories, being scapegoated to protect others, refusing to provide institutional protection to his wife. You name it – they did it #Lorraine.”

@DarioCJK2 tweeted: “Harry is coming over for Invictus…” while added: @Hotsunnydaze1: “Was good that when Harry left the firm, he was able to keep Invictus.”

Lorraine suggested the Invictus is the “best thing Harry ever did” as she addressed the royal attending the service without his immediate family members.

“He didn’t have his immediate family there,” she noted. “Obviously, Meghan and the kids are in California but there were people there supporting him.”

Russell confirmed Diana’s family was in attendance, including members of the armed forces and actor Damian Lewis. Viewer

@Mabel_Mouse_typed: “Everyone at that service were supporting Prince Harry #Lorraine not just the Spencers.”

@KellyDe60668811 added: “If anyone it was lovely to see Diana side of the family supporting Prince Harry. #GMB #Lorraine.”

Russell also gave an insight into the Invictus ceremony where he admitted Harry became emotional inside the cathedral.

Lorraine commented: “[Harry] got a lovely welcome when he arrived at the venue.”

“It’s been a pretty tumultuous week for Prince Harry,” he replied. “He didn’t see his father – but he did get a great reception. Invictus is really his legacy.”

Russell continued: “It’s grown into this incredible project. He got a bit emotional actually. He was giving a speech himself.”

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 9am
