Lidl will close its supermarkets for three days over the Christmas period. All 980 stores will close for Christmas Day, and the vast majority will close on New Year’s Eve and Boxing Day.
Only some stores in Wales and London will stay open on December 26, and the majority of its other UK supermarkets will be shut. On New Year’s Day, Lidl will close all stores across the country, except for some within the M25. The supermarket is joining other major retailers, including Aldi and Poundland, in giving its staff a longer rest over the festive period.
Customers can check their local store’s opening times on the Lidl Plus app or on the Lidl online store finder.
The supermarket warned shoppers that December 22 is expected to be the busiest day in-store and urged customers to visit in the morning between 8am and 10am, or after 6pm, when it expects crowds to be slightly smaller.
The discount supermarket announced it would invest £250 million to deliver price cuts on everyday products in the run-up to Christmas to help its customers “save more at a time when every penny counts”.
From Friday, December 13, until Monday, December 23, the German retailer will launch 11 days of offers for customers to claim ahead of Christmas. Shoppers can redeem the offer by opening the Lidl Plus app, clicking the gift box and activating the coupon.
Aldi will also close for three days over Christmas. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.
