Lib Dem 'game playing' torn apart after Ed Davey refuses to rule out fresh Labour alliance

The Conservatives have accused the Liberal Democrats of “short-term political game playing”, after the party launched “Tory Removals Service” today in Surrey.

Posing in front of a large crowd of party activists, Lib Dem leader Ed Davey said: “Today, I’m launching Ed Davey’s Tory removals.”

He described his party as the “Blue Wall’s premium unseating service for Conservative MPs” and added that 2024 would be “the year the voters finally get to pack up this awful, out of touch Conservative Government.”

Clad in an orange high-vis jacket, Mr Davey continued the removals metaphor: “Throw their disastrous policies into the skip. Clean up the sleaze stains from the carpet and eventually move the whole lot out of Number 10.”

In an attempt at a retort to the Lib Dems’ rally, Conservative chairman Richard Holden said: “The Liberal Democrats’ short-term political game playing does not address the priorities of the British people. Instead, the Liberal Democrats will let in Labour enabling their dangerous £28billion-a-year spending spree.

“The Conservatives are the only party with a long-term plan for the country, delivering a brighter future for all, including taking the difficult, long-term decisions to halve inflation, meaning we are able to cut taxes for 27 million workers and deliver the biggest business tax cut in modern British history.”

Mr Davey’s campaign rally included a plan for his party to “force” Rishi Sunak and his Conservatives to call a General Election and stop him being able to “cling on for another twelve months”.

Sir Ed Davey told GB News: “I announced today that we think the General Election should be on May 2 and it couldn’t come soon enough.”

The channel’s Olivia Utley asked whether or not he would consider propping up Labour, if Sir Keir Starmer’s party needed their support to govern, to which Mr Davey replied: “I’m focused on the General Election. There are many, many Conservative MPs that Liberal Democrats can defeat across the whole of the south of England, parts of London, parts of Manchester, parts of Yorkshire, in Scotland, in Wales.

‌”Liberal Democrats are really on the march, we’ve shown with our historic by-election victories and our amazing local election results across the country, that we are now an amazing campaigning force in British politics.”

He added: “I think when the election comes, we will be the surprise at the election.”
