Lee Anderson issues furious new statement over Sadiq Khan row with swipe at London Mayor

Lee Anderson has issued his first statement of the week, batting away a Cabinet Minister’s hope that he will u-turn and apologise for his comments about London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Speaking to GB News, Mr Anderson doubled down on his criticism of the London mayor, accusing him of “double standards for political benefit”.

The former Tory Chairman said: “Khan called for an immediate ceasefire weeks ago with no conditions while the hostages are still there being held at gunpoint by a terrorist organisation”.

“Hundreds of people had been arrested for racist abuse on these marches and we barely hear a peep from the mayor. If these marches were about something less fashionable Sadiq Khan would have been the first to call for them to be cancelled. It’s double standards for political benefit.”

Asked if he would apologise, Mr Anderson blasted politicians who apologise when they don’t think they’re in the wrong.

He said: “If you are wrong, apologising is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength”.

“But when you think you are right you should never apologise because to do so would be a sign of weakness.”
