The arrival of March marks the beginning of spring when temperatures start to warm up and gardens gradually wake up from their dormant state.
As such, this time of the year is a busy time for gardeners as there’s plenty to do to prepare for the new season. Now that the weather is brightening up, lawns will start to grow faster but to keep your grass looking green and healthy requires regular upkeep. Gardening experts recommend lightly mowing your lawn in March, but keeping grass fairly long to allow it to lock in moisture.
Mowing should only be required every couple of weeks over the next couple of months and this will encourage strong growth.
Lawns also need fertilising to promote strong, healthy grass, but instead of using expensive garden fertilisers which often contain chemicals, you can get your grass looking lusciously green with one common kitchen ingredient instead.
Experts say putting coffee grounds on your lawn can be beneficial as they are rich in nitrogen which is essential for healthy plant growth. They also contain other important nutrients, including potassium and phosphorus, which can improve the overall health of your lawn.
Not only are they nutrient-rich, they can also improve soil structure and water retention, and help to deter garden pests like snails and slugs.
Lilydale Instant Lawns explains: “Coffee grounds are an excellent, eco-friendly way to give your lawn a nutrient boost. They are rich in nitrogen, which is a crucial element for grass growth. Applying coffee grounds to your lawn is straightforward, but it’s important to do it correctly to avoid any potential issues.”
Experts say coffee grounds need to be dry before they are applied to lawns, so if you’re using used grounds then you’ll need to allow them to dry out first. Once they’ve dried, sprinkle the grounds across your grass evenly to avoid clumping and then lightly rake them into the soil to help them integrate.
Lilydale Instant Lawns adds: “By incorporating coffee grounds into your lawn care routine, you can enjoy a greener, healthier lawn while also recycling waste.”
