Kyren Wilson shows true colours in Jak Jones apology after World Snooker Championship win

New snooker world champion Kyren Wilson apologised to runner-up Jak Jones in the aftermath of winning the World Championship. Wilson roared in celebration as he got over the line in an 18-14 victory, shouting to his family in the crowd while at the table putting the final touches on his win.

But Wilson admitted he was out of line in celebration, taking the first chance to say “sorry” to his Welsh opponent and admitting that the emotion got the better of him.

“Firstly I would like to say sorry to Jak for that outburst,” Wilson told BBC snooker host Hazel Irvine in his post-match interview. “But it just means so much to all of us…”

Wilson struggled to hold back the tears as he discussed the emotions he was feeling: “I think mum and dad are coming down (the Crucible steps) they’ve remortgaged and sacrificed their whole lives to get me here.”

“On YouTube one of my worst things to see is me crying with Jason Mohammed at the Masters and this is going to be even worse! I said I’d never do it again but I just couldn’t help it.”

Irvine then handed Wilson a crucial tissue to help with the tears, before he added: “He was so tough and I don’t know if there’s many people left in Wales the amount that were cheering for him! They made it a fantastic atmosphere.

“Me and Jak have come through the junior ranks together. This is Jak’s first final, let alone a World final, and he’s conducted himself in an amazing fashion and I’m sure he’ll be back.”
