The words of King Charles during a public visit tanked hopes harboured by some royal fans to see Prince Harry return to Britain as a member of the Firm.
Prince Harry stepped back from his role as a working member of the Royal Family in 2020 alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, but there have since been rumours that he might step back into the fold as numbers dwindled.
Following his cancer diagnosis, the King took a temporary step back from public-facing duties – but resumed his full-time duties within a few months, whilst the Princess of Wales is slowly being reintroduced back to public life following the completion of her chemotherapy treatment.
Whilst the pair focussed on their treatment and stepped away from royal duties, speculation Harry might be asked to step back into the fold to pick up some of the slack started to circulate.
Reports claimed that Harry was open to a temporary return despite his difficult relationship with the King, but this never materialised.
The pair are understood to have had a troubled relationship since the Duke of Sussex decided to step back from his role.
Harry has levelled several accusations towards his father, including in a six-part Netflix series, where Harry accused his dad of lying during an important meeting around the time he quit the UK for the United States.
In his autobiography Spare, Harry also claimed that his father had put his own interest before his.
Despite all of this, the King remained publicly silent about his feelings regarding the falling out. However, the answer he gave during an engagement at the University of East London’s Stratford Campus sparked a frenzy among royal watchers.
