King to use 'unequalled level of diplomacy' to broker peace deal with Harry and Meghan

King Charles will use his years of diplomatic experience to secure a peace deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, according to a PR expert.

His Majesty’s relationship with his youngest son and his daughter-in-law has been fraught ever since the couple announced plans to step down from their royal roles.

After years of frostiness, and repeated attacks from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, sources close to the King have continued to maintain he is prepared to welcome Harry and Meghan back into the family.

Reputational management expert Eddie Coram James told the Daily Express that the King is likely to use an “unequalled level of diplomacy” to reconcile with the couple.

He said: “The royals are very, very good at media relations, PR and diplomacy.

“They constantly meet with individuals and representatives that they would much prefer not to, and are perhaps the best in the world at putting on a brave face and attending such meetings with grace, making that person feel as though they’re the only person in the world that they’d like to be sat with.

“Yes, this will be a great test for the thickness of that skin. Instead of meeting with dictators or uncouth presidents, which can be endured on the premise that it’s their duty, with Harry it’s personal.

“But, I would expect them to be able to put their unequalled level of experience in diplomacy to good use when it comes to their handling of any potential.”

Coram James also suggested the recent allegations made in Omid Scobie’s book Endgame, while not helpful to the peace process, are not likely to affect the King’s commitment to reconcile with his son.

Scobie has maintained he was not briefed by the Duke and Duchess but the nature of some of the allegations have fuelled doubts on whether the couple could have been involved.

Meghan last year had to U-turn on an earlier claim she had not contributed to Scobie and colleague Carolyn Durant’s Finding Freedom book, insisting she had “forgotten” about it.

The GoUp founder however suggested Endgame is unlikely to affect a possible reconciliation between the King and the Duke of Sussex.

He added: “Insofar as a plan for reconciliation is concerned, I don’t think that this would affect it. When it comes to reconciliation, there would quite possibly be an external mediator involved.

“If I was handling the meeting, I would be urging both parties to ignore the circus and fanfare surrounding events, and to focus solely on the facts and goal.”
