King Charles apparently had just one complaint upon his arrival at Westminster Abbey for his Coronation on May 6 last year, which saw thousands take to the streets in celebration of the historic event.
The King arrived for the ceremony in his Diamond Jubilee State Coach but appeared rather agitated, despite waiting many decades for his turn to be crowned.
His nine-word complaint was caught on camera as he sat and waited to be allowed to enter the Abbey, with a lip reader claiming he was concerned about being on time.
The expert said that His Majesty was moaning to his wife Queen Camilla about running behind schedule, as he said: “We can never be on time, there’s always something…”
In fact it was Prince William and Princess Kate, accompanied by their two younger children Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who were running a little late and the King and Queen had to wait for them.
He said: “I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God.”
Body language expert Judi James previously told the Mirror that the pair appeared to have made “a pact to avoid too much eye contact” to avoid Charles being “overwhelmed with emotion”.
She explained: “Touching body language between Charles and William.
“The two men seemed to have made a pact to avoid too much eye contact during the ceremony, possibly because Charles did look in danger of getting overwhelmed with emotion at some points.”
Following the ceremony, he and Camilla made their way back to Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach in the wet conditions before appearing on the palace balcony for the traditional flypast
A second lip reader there picked up another comment, where the King appeared to be in awe of the spectacle, but not the rather inclement British weather.
Elisabeth Taunton claimed he said: “Isn’t it beautiful… if only it wasn’t so wet today.”
Today marks the one-year anniversary of the momentous occasion, which the King will no doubt remember fondly.
