King Charles wants to ‘make his mark on the world’ after European Queen abdicates

King Charles wants to make his mark on the world rather than be defined by a “failed relationship” according a royal expert.

Speaking to GB News America, US-based Royal Family expert Kinsey Schofield said that the monarch would not follow the lead of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark – who abdicated from the throne on New Year’s Eve.

Ms Schofield said that she believed King Charles had not yet made the mark on the world that he wanted to make and that he did not want to be remembered for his relationship with Princess Diana. Ms Schofield added that the King would prefer people to talk about his work with the environment and young people.

She also warned about people who see The Crown Netflix series as fact and “don’t do their homework” after watching it.

Ms Schofield was full of praise for Queen Margrethe II, after she abdicated aged 83. She said: “She’s a tough cookie so I do think she’s made some really hard decisions lately, she seems a very common sense oriented leader so I do think it shocked a lot of people when she abdicated.

“When it comes to King Charles, I just don’t think he’s made his mark on the world yet – the mark that he wants to leave. He’s got a lot more to do to make sure the legacy he leaves is one that he is proud of and can control.

“We discussed on this on the programme before how so many people unfortunately believe that The Crown is fact and don’t do their homework and Charles doesn’t want his legacy to be a failed relationship… He wants us to talk about the Princes Trust and he wants us to talk about his stamp on environmental issues and how he was talking about it before everybody else.”

On whether Charles would abdicate rather than die while on the throne, Ms Schofield said: “I would never say never, it’s certainly not going to happen anytime soon. I highly doubt he appreciates us talking about it so soon after him finally becoming king.” Ms Schofield’s comments come as a new YouGov survey found that Charles was only the sixth most popular member of the Royal Family.

Prince William and Princess Kate were voted the most popular living royals from last year while the late Queen Elizabeth II was still the most popular with 80 percent of the vote. Coming in last was Prince Andrew with lowly nine percent approval rating compared to Charles’s 52 percent as he continues to lead the Firm through turbulent times.
