King Charles to continue Christmas tradition but 'uncertain' if Harry and Meghan included

A former royal butler has explained why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may not be included in the Royal Family’s most treasured tradition for Christmas. Like the late Queen Elizabeth before him, King Charles will advocate for a great deal of family time over the festive season, as the whole extended family will be at Sandringham together for the big day.

However, due to their ongoing rift with the royals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be remaining in California for the festivities, although they may reach out to the King over the phone.

Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Grant Harrold said: “Christmas is very much a time for the Royal family to be together. It’s a time of caring and being there for each other.

“Prince Albert was a huge advocate for Christmas and so was the Queen. She wanted everyone there and enjoying themselves.”

He added: “They’ve worked so hard to make Christmas an important time for the family. The King will do what he can to carry on that tradition as it has been what he’s used to while growing up.

“I don’t think he would want to let that tradition stop. Whether Harry and Meghan will be involved, we don’t know. I would like to think they would be there, especially at Christmas.

“If they aren’t invited, it doesn’t look good on Charles. But if they decide not to go, that’s on them. But it would be a bad thing either way. It’s a big statement to make.”

Another Royal Family tradition for Christmas is to buy each other ‘joke’ gifts, with Princess Kate once famously buying Prince Harry a ‘grow your own girlfriend’ present before he met Meghan.

However, Mr Harrold claimed that Kate and Prince William would still find something special to give each other, as he said: “Christmas presents with the Royals are always jokey.

“They’re always a bit of fun. But with William and Kate, I’m sure they will give each other something nice that they will like. Kate will probably get a watch or some jewellery from William.”
