King Charles 'is open' to welcoming Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for Christmas

King Charles is reportedly “open” to welcoming Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the UK for Christmas.

Harry and Meghan were said to have been eyeing the opportunity to spend Christmas in the UK with their two children, Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two.

Following a “polite” phone call with his youngest son last month, the King is said to be “open” to the idea of welcoming both Meghan and Harry to Sandringham.

The invite would also be extended to Archie and Lilibet, both of whom have never spent Christmas with their paternal grandfather.

With Christmas just days away, it has been revealed that Harry is “still holding out hope” for a family reunion over the festive period.

A source recently told New Magazine that the King is keen to “build a relationship with his grandchildren”.

This appears to be one of the reasons why the King is “open” to welcoming his son and daughter-in-law to spend Christmas with the royals.

The source went on: “There was talk of possibly meeting up with the King on Boxing Day, or even over New Year’s so that Charles can see his grandchildren and they can sit down in a friendly environment and talk things through.”

Meghan and Harry currently live more than 5,000 miles away in California, with a flight to London lasting 10 hours.

Speaking previously to Express US, royal expert Tom Quinn said that the couple may attempt to rekindle relations by December 25.

He said: “I suspect that because Harry is beginning to realise he needs the Royal Family more than the Royal Family needs him, he may well try again to patch up the relationship as we get towards Christmas Day.”

An insider previously said that, at that time, no invitation had been extended to Harry nor Meghan to spend Christmas at Sandringham.

The insider spilled: “I can’t imagine the Sussexes would decline an invitation to spend time with His Majesty. As of yet, there have not been any invitations for the holidays.”

Harry and Meghan spent their first royal Christmas together in 2017.

Meghan appeared to break royal tradition by spending Christmas with the royals prior to marrying Prince Harry.

Although they were in the UK in 2019, Meghan and Harry chose to spend Prince Archie’s first Christmas with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.

In 2020, Meghan and Harry were settled in the US and have spent every festive period there since.
