King Charles 'faces big decision' as major royal event looms amid cancer treatment

King Charles is faced with a huge dilemma as he undergoes treatment for cancer, a royal commentator has claimed.

The King has minimised public-facing duties ever since his diagnosis was announced back in February, but he is understood to be willing to undertake a few royal engagements.

Now a royal commentator has claimed Charles has a big decision to make with summer coming up, which is whether to attend either Trooping the Colour in mid-June or Royal Ascot which will take place a week after, or both.

Newsweek Chief Royal Correspondent Jack Royston told Sky News: “The King has a big decision to make coming up in a couple of months, which is whether he can go to Trooping in any form and he has Ascor a week after that. So he’s got these two decisions to make.

“We think that he’s going to go to Ascot. Which is wonderful, he could do with some light relief.

“The royals tend to parade around the front and then we usually see them in the box watching.”

Trooping the Colour is held every year as an official birthday event for the monarch, even though Charles’s actual birthday is on November 14.

It is one of the biggest military ceremonies of the year, featuring more than 1,200 soldiers and musicians plus more than 200 horses.

Royal Ascot is one of Britain’s most well-known racecourses and is usually attended by the Royal Family.

It was founded by Queen Anne in 1711 and has since received the support of a further twelve monarchs.

Meanwhile, the monarch is pressing ahead with his royal duties with a plan to embark on a hefty fortnight tour in Australia later this year, after a “successful” start to his cancer treatment, according to the Sun.

It’s understood that the royal visit alongside Queen Camilla will take place in October and the trip will include New Zealand and Samoa to lead the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
