King Charles' Christmas ban as royals prepare to celebrate at Sandringham

With the Royal Family set to gather at Sandringham to celebrate Christmas, King Charles is reported to have banned one habit that could bemuse the younger royals.

King Charles and Camilla, Prince William and Kate, and their three children will all gather at the Norfolk estate. As well as a memorable occasion, it will be a chance for the oldest royals and youngest to come together, reports the Mirror.

The King has however reportedly implemented an old-fashioned ban this Christmas. Ok! says he has barred the posting of selfies, instead insisting only carefully controlled, professionally shot photos and videos are shared.

One insider said only royals with official social media accounts will be able to post during the festivities. Any other pictures or videos will have to be approved by the Buckingham Palace communications team.

The source said: “It’s been made very clear that there will be no mobile phones, photographs or selfies taken at the lunch table this year. Only controlled and approved images will see the light of day from the celebrations.”

The new rules are reportedly being brought in to protect the interests of senior royals. It comes as over 40 guests – including teenagers – will arrive at Sandringham this weekend.

The source added: “There will be a lot of teenagers in attendance this year who are very mobile-friendly. It sounds rather funny, but the truth of the matter is they don’t want a photo of the King trying to squeeze a roast potato into his mouth appearing on social media.

“Not only will there be extended members of the family in attendance but also complete outsiders, so it’s very important to ensure that no unexpected photos or videos appear online.”
