A cleaning guru has shared an innovative and unconventional way of making sure your shower screens stay gleaming for longer using a surprising item you probably already have in your kitchen. Alice May, who goes by @athomewithalicemay on TikTok, described a simple baking paper hack as her “favourite” tricks of the year so far.
All you need is a decent size of greaseproof paper, give it a scrunch and then let it do its magic in the shower. In a video from January, Alice explained: “Rub the baking paper all over the shower glass. When you shower, most of the water will rinse away on its own.”
So how does the baking paper hack actually work? Grease-proof paper can be used to transfer its wax or silicone coating to the shower’s glass.
The wax or silicone coating then creates a water-repellent layer which can help prevent watermarks and limescale build-up.
If you want to clean your shower, start by cleaning with your regular products.
Once you’ve done that, scrunch up a piece of baking paper and wipe it all over the shower doors, glass, and other surfaces.
The hack will help prevent water from the shower from sticking to the shower glass, meaning you won’t need to put in as much effort cleaning more frequently.
Petya Holevich, a cleaning expert at Fantastic Services, told Ideal Home: “Remove any soap scum from the surface with a bathroom cleaner because the baking paper won’t work if there is built-up soap scum. Keep rubbing the surface until the fixture looks completely clean.”
Alice May’s video has been viewed over 34,500 times, receiving 611 likes and seven comments.
While fans praised the hack, others had admitted this baking paper hack was completely new to them.
Diana simply wrote: “Never heard of this one.”
@_spickandspan raved: “Honestly such a great tip ! Put so many of my customers onto this.”
Another agreed: “Gonna try this.”
