Kate Garraway 'calls in experts' after being hit with crippling £700,000 tax bill

Kate Garraway has reportedly called in experts for help after being hit with a whopping tax bill. It comes after the Good Morning Britain star closed her late husband Derek Draper’s business.

The mum-of-two has supposedly been in contact with financial experts Hacker Young to discuss the matter with HMRC. According to their site, the company provide expert advice on a range of subjects, including, tax investigations and litigation support

Derek Draper’s psychotherapy company, called Astra Aspera Ltd, was closed with £184,096.96 of debt. The Sun reports this closure has saddled Kate with the £716,000 tax bill.

A source told the publication: “It’s no secret that Kate has had a lot of financial burdens to deal with including Derek’s medical and care bills and the inevitable collapse of Derek’s company.

“Kate has wisely sought some help and is working with a team to help guide her through addressing all these debts as speedily as possible.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Kate’s representatives for comment.

This is the latest blow for the 57-year-old after she revealed on Good Morning Britain earlier this week that she’s had to dip into her pension.

Her admission comes after the host was speaking to a woman who is using some of her pension to pay for an operation due to the NHS waiting list.

Kate confessed: “I’m doing something similar myself. I’ve just had to withdraw a bit you can tax-free for my pension to pay for belated bills for my husband who passed away.

“People are having to do the things – not that it was a huge pension in the first place – people are having to do things which aren’t what they saved for.

“And some people don’t have any savings at all.”

Kate openly spoke about her money woes in her latest ITV documentary Finding Derek.

The star revealed that she was forking out an eye-watering £16,000 a month to cover her husband’s health care.

Touching on her crippling debt since Derek’s death, she told her Good Morning Britain c-stars she’s ashamed of the financial state it’s left her in.

She said: “I am ashamed of the fact that I am in debt because I have an incredible job that I love, that’s very well paid.

“I’m not a carer travelling miles, paying their own transport to go and help somebody for minimum wage.”

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
