Jeremy Corbyn announces plan to sue Nigel Farage over 'disgusting' claims made on GB News

Jeremy Corbyn claimed he will take legal action against Nigel Farage, accusing him of telling “disgusting and malicious” lies about him.

In a surprise tweet this afternoon, the former Labour leader said he has asked his lawyers to begin suing the GB News presenter, after calls from his supporters to take action.

Mr Corbyn said: “I have asked my lawyers to take the first steps in commencing legal proceedings against Nigel Farage, following a highly defamatory statement about me. We are a movement for peace — and we cannot stand by and let these disgusting and malicious lies go unchallenged.”

While the left-winger did not specify which remarks he had taken umbrage with, the announcement came four days after supporters of Mr Corbyn encouraged him to take action after Mr Farage appeared to claim the former Labour leader believes in a “secret Jewish shadow government”.

The clip, which sparked fury among supporters of Mr Corbyn, saw the GB News presenter rant about Mr Corbyn’s record.

He told viewers: “I said the Jewish community in North America had been massively successful in law, in business and yes they did campaign for what they wanted, they did it within the law, they did it quite successfully.

“But I was never a subscriber to the mad-cat conspiracy theory that the Jews run the world. But I’ll tell you who was: yes, Jeremy Corbyn the Labour leader that you supported!”.

Both Mr Farage and Mr Corbyn have been approached for comment.
