Viewers watching Donald Trump’s inauguration have been left saying the same thing after spotting Jeff Bezos’ fiancée wearing an ‘inappropriate’ outfit.
Lauren Sanchez accompanied her husband to watch the swearing-in of the 47th President of the United States today (Monday, January 20). Other famous faces who attended the ceremony alongside the Amazon CEO and his wife included Tesla tycoon Elon Musk and Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg.
But it was Ms Sanchez who had people talking on social media. Taking to X, critics were quick to offer her a “safety pin” as her blazer opened just below her bust, exposing a white lace bra.
“Is someone going to offer Lauren Sanchez a safety pin?” one person wrote. Another added: “Not really appropriate for this day!”
Meanwhile a third chimed in: “Disgraceful.” However, not everyone was so scathing about Ms Sanchez’ daring look.
“She’s wearing a corset, not a bra genius!” someone said, coming to her defence.
It’s not only Ms Sanchez’ outfit that has had people talking today. First Lady Melania Trump made a rare public appearance for husband’s inauguration sporting quintessentially stylish attire, including a black wide-brim hat, covering the upper half of her face.
“Why the hell does Melania Trump look like the Hamburgler?” one person asked on X, while another added: “Raise your hand if you think Melania Trump looks absolutely stunning for inauguration today.”
Speaking to the Irish Star, one fashion expert shared there may be a hidden strategy behind the choice of headwear. Course Leader for MBA Fashion Entrepreneurship at the University of East London Alison Lowe, MBE, said:
“It added a sophisticated element to her attire, which served as both a focal point, subtly drawing attention but also partially obscured her face which could be interpreted in two ways.
“It could be that it offered privacy to mask her expressions which are always closely observed and commented on-often in a derogatory way.”
Lowe also said the hat may have been chosen to ensure attention remains on her husband and she doesn’t steal his limelight. “It could also have been selected to ensure that the focus was on Donald Trump, with Melania respectfully playing an elegant, but secondary role to her husband.”
