Jane McDonald says her gigs are therapy and 'better than NHS' after heartache over fiancé

Cruise ship queen Jane McDonald considers her performances as therapeutic, benefitting not just herself, but also her audience – perhaps better than NHS treatment. The songstress, 61, who was left bereft from the tragic death of her fiancé Eddie Rothe in 2021, finds comfort in the “wave of love” she receives and gives back to the crowd during her tours.

The Loose Women star said: “It’s like a big wheel of energy. I start it on the stage then it goes out into the crowd and comes back in a wave of the most amazing love I could ever imagine.

“It’s the most wonderful thing and it goes back out to them. So many people say to me, ‘That’s better than the National Health’, because they feel better.”

Jane reignited her romance with Eddie, a former member of The Searchers, in 2008 – the couple having originally dated almost three decades ago. However, life dealt Jane a cruel blow when he died of lung cancer at just 67-years-old, just months after Eddie proposed to her on Christmas Eve 2020.

While discussing her forthcoming tour, Yorkshire-born Jane hinted that her fans would experience a rollercoaster of emotions during her concerts.

She shared: “There are emotional times in this show. There are going to be four moments in the concerts that you’re going to think, ‘Get your tissues out’.

“But it is good to have a cry and then have a good laugh and a dance and that’s it. It is like therapy, isn’t it? And that’s just for me.”

Jane McDonald, the star who rose to fame in the 90s with The Cruise, is set to bare her soul about the loss of her cherished partner Eddie.

She shared: “The older I’ve got and been through certain things in my life, everybody goes through the same.

The brave singer shared that she looks forward to opening up to her audiences on tour.

She added to the Mirror: “I think this is a different me you’ll see this time, and I’m really looking forward to it, because I do sit there and I do talk to everyone and it is very personal and I know them.

“I know so many of my fans really well, so it’s just me having a chat and trying to make people feel better. That’s my job. If I can, then that’s my job done.”
