Two-time world champion Peter Wright made the startling revelation that he has “got rid” of all his trophies and darts, inspired by the performances of Luke Littler and Luke Humphries at Alexandra Palace.
Littler, 17, took the world by storm as he reached the World Championship final last year, leaving Wright and the rest of the darts community in awe as he narrowly missed out on becoming the new champion – only to go one better the following year.
Wright, who claimed victory at Ally Pally in 2020 and 2022, has been motivated by the two Lukes to start anew for the upcoming season.
“I watched the World Championship after I got knocked out, and Luke Littler and Luke Humphries inspired me with what they did,” Wright confessed to the PDC a year ago. ”Especially Luke Humphries with what he’s won; it proves what you can do and achieve if you put the hard work in. Luke Littler is the best thing I’ve ever seen on TV!
“That’s why he has inspired me to get my finger out. I have got rid of all my trophies, got rid of all my darts, so I can start afresh. I want new trophies this year. Last year was terrible and the year before that was terrible, but I’m looking forward to playing this year.
“I took time off last year and it didn’t work, we saw that in the Premier League. This year I am hitting everything again. Fingers crossed my mindset is to use one set of darts. If I can manage that all year, I’ll be happy and I will be a big threat to everyone.”
Wright was largely unable to fill that vow, however, having suffered a disappointing Premier League Darts campaign in an underwhelming year by his lofty standards.

However, he did have a crowning moment on the Ally Pally stage when he dumped defending champion Humphries out of the competition.
Having spent the better part of a few days engaging in mind games with the world No. 1, Wright left Humphries with egg on his face by a stunning performance en route to a 4-1 victory.
Wright averaged 110, despite suffering a bout of illness over the festive period, but was graciously congratulated by his opponent.
Wright was unable to keep up that form though and was subsequently dispatched 5-2 by Stephen Bunting in the quarter-finals.
The 54-year-old Scot has since been left out of the Premier League line-up for the 2025 season and will not be competing alongside Littler, Humphries, Bunting, Michael van Gerwen, Rob Cross, Chris Dobey, Gerwyn Price and Nathan Aspinall across Europe.
