ITV The Chase viewers all say the same thing as they spot 'incorrect' answer

It looks as though The Chase fans were left less than impressed on Wednesday evening. During a repeated episode, it was only contestants Sue and Emily left to face Anne Hegerty in the final chase.

Whilst trying to set a high target for her to beat, host Bradley Walsh asked: “What name is given to the horizontal bars on a ladder?”. Buzzing in to answer, Emily replied: “Steps”.

Although Bradley told the 24-year-old her answer was correct, ITV viewers weren’t so sure it should’ve been allowed. Taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on the answer. @mickey270216 commented: “It’s rungs! “

@Mysteron_Voice added: “… surely the horizontal bars on a ladder are *rungs* not *steps* … “ @dinkydip replied: “Yes! …I thought just the same.”

@foxylady710 commented: “I thought it was ‘rungs’ on a ladder not ‘steps’”. With @steve_evo adding: “Rungs surely #TheChase.”

Although @NikolaDreams tweeted: “I’d have said rungs rather than steps as well, but I suppose there is such a thing as a step-ladder.”

In the end, the duo had answered 12 questions correctly, which gave Anne a target of 14 to beat after they were given a two-step head start.

Commenting on their performance, Bradley said: “Started off great, got a bit tricky in the middle, we’ll need some pushbacks.”

However, Anne wasn’t fazed by their score, as she told Bradley their target wasn’t enough for them to beat her.

Sadly, it seemed as though Anne was right, as she caught them with 27 seconds on the clock, despite the contestants having three attempts to push her back.

Touching on their defeat, the host said: “Now, interestingly enough, had you got those three attempts, you wouldn’t be that far away.”

Anne added: “They both did very good cash builders and 14 had been a winning score before.

“But they really did need the boys there.”

During the repeated show, Anne took to Twitter to share that there was a new episode of Beat The Chasers on ITV the same evening.

Posting a small clip of what would unfold in the upcoming programme, Anne was having a bit of a laugh with one celebrity contestant.

She quipped: “I’m not quite sure if you’re here to quiz or if you’re still pestering me to be a life model. Maybe my colleague Paul [Sinha] would know.”

The Chase continues weekdays on ITV from 5pm.
