‘It’s a handy thing’ – Useful feature lets Ford Fiesta owners limit top speed for others

A Ford Fiesta owner has shared a unique safety feature that can help motorists keep their vehicle safe when others borrow it.

Tom Simons is a Fiesta fanatic who regularly posts videos showing daily life with his examples of the ever-popular supermini, often showing hidden features owners may not be aware of.

In a popular video, Tom shows viewers how to set up MyKey, a system that can limit the car’s performance capabilities when a certain key is used.

He explained: “If I turn the car on, in the settings and then MyKey, you can actually set up the feature. If I had my spare key, you can basically set it up to be a dud key, you can put a speed limiter on it.

“Basically, you can set up a very restricted key, so if you’re a parent and your kids driving with you, you can set it so it doesn’t go over 70mph. You’re giving the car to a friend, you can set it so the car doesn’t get abused. It’s quite a handy thing.”

Later in the video, Tom also highlighted that many of the later Ford Fiestas also featured lane keep assist, which alerts drivers when they are drifting away from the middle of the lane.

He added: “A good safety feature that I don’t think is automatically turned on. Here it is, lane assist. So, on the end [of the left indicator stalk] is a little toggle thing. If you press it in it actually turns on lane assist.

“So, if you’re on the motorway and you sway out of your lane, you can set it up so it either alerts you, it pulls the steering wheel back or both. I have it on aid, and if you’re on a long drive, you can set it the cruise control, lane assist, these cars come with a very good spec from the factory.”
