Israel releases video showing 'senior Hamas leader and his wife, kids' in Gaza tunnel

Israel’s military has released a video allegedly showing a senior Hamas leader inside a tunnel below Gaza.

The video from the IDF purportedly shows Yahya Sinwar in a tunnel below Khan Younis with his wife, children, and brother Ibrahim Sinwar.

Sinwar has been one of Israel’s main targets in its war in Gaza, as the IDF has publicly accused the leader of being the “mastermind” behind Hamas’ terror attack on October 7.

IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari released the video at his daily press conference on Tuesday, saying the footage had been captured on a Hamas CCTV camera on October 10 and recently obtained by the IDF.

Hagari said: “That’s how he escaped with his family underground in a tunnel to one of the safe accommodation complexes he had built in advance.”

A second video was also released by the IDF showing Israeli forces in a section of Hamas’ tunnels where they believe Sinwar was hiding.

A soldier can be heard saying in the video: “They fled when they heard that the IDF was approaching them. They knew we were coming so they fled.”

Sinwar has been designated as a global terrorist by the US Department of State since 2015, and he has also recently been sanctioned by the UK and France.

The IDF has intensified strikes on Gaza in recent weeks, including in Khan Younis, where the Israeli military has claimed Hamas planned their brutal attack.

Israeli attacks in Gaza have killed at least 28,340 people and injured at least 67,984, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
