Israel kills top Hamas lead in Hezbollah stronghold Beirut as Gaza war engulfs Middle East

An Israeli drone strike has targeted a Hamas office in the Lebanese city of Beirut sparking fears the conflict could be spiralling into a larger regional war.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) said: “‘Four people were martyred and a number of others injured when the Hamas office was targeted.”

The strike targeted Dahiyeh – a stronghold of the Iranian-backed terror group Hezbollah in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

According to Hezbollah TV, Al Arouri – who helped found Hamas’s military wing – was killed in the strike and footage of the aftermath showed a large fire burning in the rubble-strewn street.

In November, Israel’s minister for defence Yoav Gallant warned Hezbollah’s secretary general, Hassan Nasrallah: “If you hear that we have attacked Beirut, you will understand that Nasrallah has crossed that line.”
