Iran threatens to ditch nuclear pledge as tensions with Israel rocket

Less than 24 hours before the strike, Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Ahmad Haghtalab said that “Iran has always been ready to counter such threats,” and would review its nuclear stance to increase security.

He said: “If the false Zionist regime [Israel] will try to exert pressure on us, threatening to strike nuclear facilities, then, probably, the nuclear doctrine of the Islamic Republic of Iran will be reviewed and our country will no longer stick to its previous commitments.”

Haghtalab noted the Iranian Army regularly monitors and protects Iranian nuclear facilities as he reiterated that “national nuclear centres are completely safe.”

A senior Iranian official on Frida morning said their country was not planning an immediate response to the attack.

The anonymous official also reported the IRGC was still working on identifying the source of the strike.
