Inside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's trip to Jamaica as Duke praised as 'fearless'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s trip to Jamaica for the premiere of the new film Bob Marley: One Love saw the Duke of Sussex win over the reggae legend’s widow Rita Marley.

Harry was reportedly so keen to meet the Jamaican singer, who now uses a wheelchair, that he headed straight over to see her before the film began, bending down to kiss her hand.

Her daughter Stephanie told MailOnline: “She (my mother) is fond of Harry and loves his spirit as well as his rebellion against the status quo.

“She likes that he seems fearless and stands up for what he believes is right.”

Harry and Mrs Marley have met before when the Prince travelled to Jamaica as part of his Diamond Jubilee tour in 2012 and he still reportedly sends her “personal gifts”.

Their “rebellion” attracted criticism from some quarters as the Sussexes were called out for posing with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, as he is known for his anti-monarchy stance.

Mr Holness previously met with Prince William and Princess Kate when they embarked on their royal tour of the Caribbean in March 2022, as they travelled to Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas.

The PM told the royals his country would be “moving on” from the monarchy, as a referendum on whether Jamaica will remove King Charles as head of state is tipped to be held later this year.

On Tuesday during the day before the premiere was held, Harry and Meghan enjoyed a private tour of the Bob Marley Museum, as Bob Marley Group lawyer Lecia-Gaye Taylor said they spent about an hour at the exhibition.

She said: “It was not Harry’s first time here and they definitely enjoyed it”, as they were shown around by one of the museum’s longest-serving guides, Ricky Chaplin.

The film’s after-party was held at the Terra Nova hotel in Kingston, where they joined 60 other revellers for cocktails.
