US President Joe Biden has been savaged by his critics who claimed he was “fried” after a particularly gaffe-ridden speech during which he mixed up the name of the award he was presenting.
Biden was presenting the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom – a high civilian honour in the US – when he made the rambling speech.
In a video shared to X by the conservative RNC Research group, the 81-year-old President can be seen slurring his words while mixing up the name of the award.
Quoting Biden, RNC Research wrote: “BIDEN: ‘I congratulate Presidential Freedom of Medal recipients’.”
Along with another clip, the group added: “BIDEN v. TELEPROMPTER: ‘She’s not only, she’s not only the only person receiving this medal, she is a, uh, she is a, uh, you know…'”
The common gaffes and mix-ups have led to concerns on both sides of the aisle that Joe Biden is unfit for office.
In an AP poll conducted late last year, a full 77 percent of surveyed voters said Biden is too old to be effective for four more years.
Not only did 89 percent of Republicans say that, so did 69 percent of Democrats. That view is held across age groups, not just by young people, though older Democrats specifically are more supportive of his 2024 bid.
