Meghan Markle’s recent social media posts have hinted at a potential change in revealing more personal details about her private life as she has made multiple uploads on Instagram this month.
However, a PR expert and social media guru has predicted what fans might want to see from The Duchess of Sussex as a public figure, despite her stepping down as a senior working royal alongside Prince Harry back in 2020.
Expert and social media guru at Ellis Digital, Caitlin Jardine, told Express.co.uk: “As a public figure and former royal stature, they expect her [Meghan’s fans] to use Instagram not just for personal updates but as a platform to shout about important causes, highlight her recent projects and connect to viewers in a meaningful way.”
Caitlin added: “Her followers would much prefer and appreciate posts that are thoughtful and intentional rather than purely just promotional or overly frequent.”
Meghan has already conducted interviews on television to raise awareness of campaigns and initiatives she is working on.
For example, Prince Harry and Meghan’s chat aired on CBS with Jane Pauley, followed by the launch of their ‘Parents Network’, designed to assist parents in protecting their children from cyber abuse. The interview received immediate praise from social media users, with one commenting: “Having endured more bullying than most, Harry and Meghan truly understand the importance of their project.”
So far in 2025, Meghan has uploaded three Instagram reels including a New Year’s post, a video containing her upcoming trailer for her Netflix show – ‘With Love, Meghan’, and an emotional tribute about her beloved pet dog.
However, The Duchess of Sussex has been advised to not “over saturate” her feed so that it feels “ingenuine” to fans. The social media manager from Ellis Digital also told Express.co.uk: “Whilst she needs to meet the demands that keep her audience engaged, she needs to ensure that she does so without ‘over-doing’ it, without over saturating her feed whereby it seems ingenuine and insincere.”
For high profile individuals like Meghan, frequent posting isn’t necessarily “too much”, Caitlin claims. She added: “As long as it is relevant and authentic, posting three reels in a week feels appropriate for her audience.
“It keeps her followers engaged without overwhelming them, especially since each reel has a purpose behind it.”
The mother-of-two, however, has to avoid the risk of framing herself as “fame hungry”, if people questioned her intentions behind her return to Instagram.
Meghan Markle currently has 1.5million followers on Instagram [at the time of writing].
The Duchess of Sussex had closed her personal social media accounts ahead of her wedding to the Duke of Sussex in 2018. But, she had regularly posted updates on them beforehand and also ran her own lifestyle blog, called The Tig – now defunct.
