The serving Greggs employee took to Reddit to reveal how some of the most popular menu items are prepared.
Writing in a thread on the popular forum, the user who goes by the name emstars02 named some surprising truths about the best-selling sausage rolls and breakfast baps.
Other former employees who have spoken about the chain warned against ordering certain items, but this person simply shared how things are made.
The bakery worker claimed that they have worked for the chain since May 2023, adding that it is “a pretty easy job”.
That said, they noted that even they are surprised by the popularity of some items on the famously low priced menu.
The Reddit user’s first revelation was about the special training employees are given for assembling the breakfast rolls.
They claimed that they were “trained to do the sauce first” when layering up the filling in between the buns.
Best practice for Greggs workers appears to be opening the bun first, pouring “red or brown sauce” onto them, then layering up the fillings to get “a nicely sauced roll without any extra sauce flying around”.
When it comes to other popular bakery items, the employee confirmed that Greggs sausage rolls are the most popular item.
The user named emstars02 explained: “There are days – especially Saturdays in my shop when we will put out freshly baked sausage rolls and they all sell out within one to two minutes and they are most commonly bought in larger amounts.”
She added that in close second are steak bakes which are “becoming more popular every day” and “sell out so fast now”.
Greggs fans looking to get their bakery fix can do so easily at one of the 2,406 sites across the UK.
But when it comes to getting the best produce, the Reddit worker suggested using her handy tip. She said: “The temperature of the bakes can depend on the time.
“Usually, midday is when we bake the most and we have hot bakes ready more often so that’s a good time to get hot ones, but in the evening we don’t really cook that much because it’s not busy so most of them won’t be as warm.”
