While some people may like a rough towel, I much prefer a soft and fluffy one, which is often short-lived when they are washed regularly.
White vinegar not only strips residue left behind from detergent and fabric softener, but it can also work well to soften the towels.
To start with, I made sure towels were the only garment being placed in the machine, making sure not to take up too much space.
I then placed a detergent pod in the machine and added around half a cup of white vinegar into my washing machine’s detergent drawer.
I opted to wash them on high heat at 60C to give them a proper deep clean to get rid of germs and bacteria.
While most detergents do work at a low temperature, putting towels on a higher wash prevents the build-up of soap scum and strips any shampoos which have lingered in the material.
Deyan Dimitrov, CEO of Laundryheap, said adding white vinegar to towels can help to loosen up the towel fibres, making them much softer.
Deyan said white vinegar can help to get rid of detergent buildup, making the towels “as fluffy as the day you bought them”.
The household essential can also help to get rid of any odours which can easily build up on towels when they do not dry fully.
I purchased my white vinegar from Wilko a while ago but it can also be picked up from stores like Tesco for as little as 30p.
After the washing cycle had finished, I set it on for another spin cycle which is something I do with all towels and bedding to drain further excess water.
To my surprise, the towels didn’t smell of white vinegar at all and felt lovely and soft, but I wanted to see the results fully once they had dried.
I did dry them in the tumble dryer as I find they can take too long to dry on an airer and the results were amazing.
They were super soft and fluffy and felt exactly like they do when you stay in a hotel.
According to the expert, hotels also use white vinegar to make their towels nice and soft.
