I tried Thorntons’ Christmas chocolate collection – here’s what I thought

For over a century, Thorntons has specialised in crafting high-quality chocolate, sweets, toffee, fudge and other confectionery including personalised items.

While I always see their chocolates in supermarkets, I’ve never picked any up so was super excited to see what the brand had to offer in terms of Christmas goodies.

Whether you’re looking for something small or a large selection box, the brand had everything, and for good prices too.

This included Thorntons Pearls Orange Velvet, its Continental Collection, elf and reindeer chocolate figures as well as its Classic Christmas Collection.

Thorntons Pearls Orange Velvet

The description of these reads: “Break through the milk chocolate shell to discover a silky ganache filling, infused with real orange, perfect for giving, sharing or keeping as a treat just for you.”

On sale for just £5, Britons can get their hands on this box of delicious chocolates which tasted premium.

I’ve always loved a filled chocolate and these hit the spot with the right balance of chocolate and orange.

Continental Collection

This chocolate box contains an assortment of premium, European-inspired recipes with 24 chocolates in a box for £10.

Flavoured included amaretti crisp, Seville caramel, Sicilian mousse, Gianduiot and espresso.

These were also delicious with each chocolate offering a rich flavour which wasn’t too powerful, melting in the mouth at the same time.

The Gianduiot chocolate was my favourite, with a smooth combination of cocoa and hazelnut for an “irresistible melt-in-the-mouth experience”.

Elf and reindeer figures

These chocolates are great for children at Christmas and make for wonderful stocking filler presents.

Available for just £2.25 from most supermarkets, they are made with 100 percent cocoa butter and are decorated with colour.

Having already tried these chocolates previously, they were not my favourite out of the selection, with other brands’ alternatives on the market tasting much nicer.

However, for the price, they do make for great presents as they come in a box too unlike other brands.

Classic Christmas Collection

This box of Christmas chocolate comes in a gorgeous festive box with Christmas trees on the outside of it.

For just £15 Britons can expect to find a huge 39 chocolates in the box, and a selection of milk, dark and white chocolates.

The description said: “With seasonal specialities including Gingerbread House and Cranberry and Raspberry Mousse, chosen just for the festive season.”

I’m not usually a huge fan of dark chocolate but the raspberry and cranberry mousse was divine as was the treacle caramel chocolate.

The crunchy praline has always been my favourite Thornton’s chocolate and I love how it features in a lot of the boxes.

Other flavours in the box included creamy fudge, salted butterscotch as well as orange blush.
