'I tried Aldi's new skincare line that's £99 cheaper than cult brands and it's amazing'

Aldi’s health and beauty brand, Lacura, has become known for releasing skincare, beauty and haircare dupes that are almost identical to the originals.

Living just around the corner from Aldi, you’ll often find me scouring the middle aisle for Lacura’s latest releases. Some of my favourites have included the antioxidant La Soie skincare range, the Too Legit Mascara and the Perfect Proof Extreme Clean Dry Shampoo.

So when Lacura announced its new superfood skincare line and bath nectar that’s similar to leading brands Weleda, Laura Mercier and Elemis, I was excited to give them a try, especially as prices start from just £3.99.

I am, admittedly, not familiar with many of Elemis’ products but Weleda Skin Food and Weleda Skin Food Nourishing Night Cream are two of my favourite moisturisers that can always be found on my dressing table or at the bottom of my bag.

With this in mind, I tested the new skincare range for one week to see how hydrated and rejuvenated my dry skin would feel.

Lacura’s Rich Moisturing Cream – 5/5

Lacura’s new Rich Moisturising Cream is designed to shield and nourish skin in the winter months and is similar to Weleda’s Skin Food, which is loved by Victoria Beckham, but at a fraction of the cost.

Weleda’s award-winning Skin Food retails for £14.95 and is enriched with soothing botanical extracts which hydrate and nourish very dry and rough skin.

The formula includes pansy extract, calendula, rosemary, sunflower seed oil and chamomile and smells lightly floral hints of orange and lavandula.

On opening Lacura’s Rich Moisturising Cream, I was met with a very similar scent that was pleasant without being overwhelming and smelled even better when applied to my skin.

Lacura’s offering also contains a similar formula to Weleda’s with organic sunflower oil, calendula, pansy and chamomile extract. The rich formula can be applied to all areas of the body which was perfect for the dry patches on my arms.

The formula is thick, rich and luxurious, melting onto the skin without leaving an unpleasant sticky residue. I was concerned that the thick formula wouldn’t absorb completely into my skin but it did with ease.

I used the formula on my face and body and was seriously impressed with how well it absorbed and hydrated my dry skin – even the really rough patches.

After a week of using Lacura’s Rich Moisturising Cream, my skin felt more hydrated, nourished and smoother.

Lacura’s Light Moisturing Cream – 4.5/5

Lacura’s Moisturising Cream is available in both a rich and light formulation with the same nourishing ingredients. The light formula is silkier and lightweight and better for those with oilier skin.

This absorbed faster than the rich formula and left my skin feeling supple, smooth and instantly hydrated.

The Light Moisturising Cream can also be used on the face and body but I found it most effective on my body as it spreads more easily.

While this felt lovely on my face, I felt it didn’t keep my very dry skin hydrated for as long as the rich formula.

Lacura’s Hydrating Gel Serum – 4.5/5

The Hydrating Gel Serum is designed to improve skin texture and balance complexions with its antioxidant-rich ingredients which include organic aloe vera juice and cica prebiotics.

Lacura’s £4.99 offering is very similar to Elemis’ Superfood Cica Calm Hydration Juice which retails for a whopping £44.

I use serums daily and am particularly fond of formulas that contain niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and AHA acids.

Lacura’s Hydrating Gel Serum acts as a barrier against the winter weather and has really improved the texture of my skin without causing any unwanted breakouts, which can be a common problem with serums.

Overall, my skin feels softer, smoother and more supple.

Illuminating Primer Moisturiser – 3.5/5

Lacura’s Illuminating Primer Moisturiser is similar to Elemis’ Superfood Glow Priming Moisturiser which retails for £44.

The primer moisturiser contains green tea seed oil and ginger extract and aims to hydrate and moisturise skin while creating a dewy complexion.

I’ve tried the formula on my face both by itself and underneath makeup. While this does leave skin with a lovely healthy glow, I didn’t find it hydrating enough by itself so I layered it with the Lacura Rich Moisturising Cream which worked perfectly.

If you’re looking to create a dewy makeup look without applying a foundation or BB cream, this is a lovely alternative that also won’t cost you the Earth.

It also works very well underneath a foundation, giving skin a natural, dewy base without pilling.

Illuminating Primer Moisturiser costs £4.99 for 50ml

Almond Coconut Honey Bath Nectar – 5/5

After the success of the Lacura Vanilla Honey Golden Bath Nectar last year, Lacura has welcomed a new bubble bath that’s similar to luxury, high-end brand, Laura Mercier.

The new dermatologically-tested and cruelty-free Almond Coconut Honey Bath Nectar smells incredible with hints of almond oil, honey and rich coconut.

Unlike other bubble baths, this feels luxurious and also protects your skin’s moisture barrier thanks to ingredients such as hydrolysed wheat protein and provitamin B5.

What I love the most about this product is the wooden honey dipper that comes with it. Dipping it into the velvety formula really adds a touch of luxury to my Sunday night bath.
