“I had to get a new cooker too, so all in I think it costs me between £1,500 and £2,000. I’m not worried about spending money on the flat because I think I am going to be here for a while.”
His tough situation has been turned into a short film by a local filmmaker. Ryan Pollock made a 15-minute movie called ‘Exile on Stanhope Place’ about Mr Wisniewski.
Mr Pollock, who is 24 and has family from the same place as Nick, spent about a month filming him. He said: “The scenes with Nick were filmed in about eight or nine different days over the space of about a month. He was a man of few words at first.”
“It took Nick a bit of time to be comfortable being on camera, that’s quite normal with a lot of people. They are conscious of the camera. But towards the end he opened up a bit.”
Mr Wisniewski was first told he’d get £35,000 and free rent for two years, but then they offered £40,000.
He said: “When I found out I was going to be the last person left on the street, I really did worry there would be a problem, but thankfully there hasn’t been any trouble.”
“If they are offering me money for the flat it would need to be near the £100,000 mark now – prices have gone up, everything is more expensive now.”
