'I found out my husband was my cousin 6 months into dating – but I married him anyway'

A Tiktoker said she found out her husband was her cousin six months into dating, but ended up marrying him anyway.

Lifestyle content creator, Makenna ‘Kenna’ Hagemeyer, 21, from Utah, took to TikTok to making the shocking revelation.

In a now-viral video, with over 1.4 million views, she wrote on the on-screen text: “Finding out we are actually cousins six months into our relationship and still getting married.”

In the video, Kenna and her husband, Eli Hagemeyer, 25, can be seen hugging and laughing.

She even added the song ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ to the video – a nod to the state where first-cousin marriage is legal.

She captioned the video ‘Just Utah things,’ with hashtags, including #cousinsdating and #cousinsmarriage.

While the couple seemed loved up, it did not sit right with her viewers who prodded for an explanation.

One person said: “That’s not Utah things… that’s incest.”

Another person commented: “I miss the person I was 30 seconds ago.”

A third added: “At least you don’t have to choose what family to go to for holidays.”

Don’t miss…

Her video has gardened thousands of people, with many saying that she should have probably kept things a secret.

“I think you accidentally posted a draft,” one joked.

Another said: “You couldn’t waterboard this information out of me.”

Kenna replied to some of the comments saying her husband did not want to tell people but she had to “beg” him to let her.

Viewers also wanted to know how closely related the pair were as Kenna said in another video that they plan to have babies.
