'I am pregnant and it took me 10 minutes for anyone to offer me a seat – it's disgraceful'

A pregnant woman has sparked a debate after sharing footage of her stood on a busy tube at 33 weeks pregnant as it took 10 minutes for other passengers to offer her a seat.

Sophia Amelia shared the video on TikTok under the username @sophiaamelia92 as she filmed the moment she stood on the packed London Underground train.

Despite passing several stops, it appears people failed to recognise Sophia was 33-weeks pregnant, with no one offering the mother-to-be a seat.

She captioned the video: “Literally took me 10 minutes to get a seat this day. I have a baby on board badge and people very clearly DID see me, then quickly looked down at their phones.

“Eventually, a woman did offer me her seat but it’s ALWAYS women that do, men avoid.”

Sophia also wrote on the screen: “POV [Point of view]: Commuting at 33 weeks pregnant, standing patiently waiting for somebody to offer me a seat.”

But the footage sparked debate in the comments, with one person writing: “Just ask? I barely pay attention to my surroundings on the tube.”

Another said: “So just ask, they would get up for you? Other people are also slumped after work just trying to get home.”

Others pointed out that the trains have ‘priority seats’ which are designed for pregnant or disabled people. Someone else asked if other passengers “noticed” she was pregnant, to which she replied: “Oh, they noticed.”
