Police have confirmed the identity of human remains found on a property in South Yorkshire last month. The discovery was made in Broadcarr Road on July 14, and officers say the remnants are those of Richard Dyson. The 55-year-old was reported missing to the police from Barnsley in 2019. His family has been informed of the development in the investigation, and they are being supported by officers, South Yorkshire Police said.

Two men, aged 72 and 71, who were re-arrested on suspicion of murder in July, have been bailed in relation to the alleged offence as enquiries continue. Detective Inspector Adam Watkinson said: “Our thoughts today are with Richard Dyson’s family on what is an extremely difficult day for everyone who knew and loved him. We have supported Richard’s loved ones throughout our investigation into his disappearance, and will continue to do so following this tragic news. We’re urging the public and members of the media to please respect their privacy at this time.

“Our investigation into Richard’s death is very much ongoing and I’d urge anyone who has information which could help our investigation to share it with us if you have not done so already.

“You can report online, by calling 101, or completely anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Police have asked that those who get in contact quote incident number 459 of November 25, 2019, when they get in touch.

Residents can also provide information directly to the investigation team via a Public Portal.

Police said after the remains were discovered that there would be an ongoing presence at the property for about the next two weeks.

Senior Investigating Officer, Andy Knowles, said: “We are keeping an open mind following this discovery, and working around the clock to establish the identity of the person involved and the circumstances surrounding this development.

“Richard Dyson and his family remain at the forefront of our minds as we progress our enquiries, and we know how important it is for them to get answers.

He added: “We remain keen to hear from anyone with any information which could assist us, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

“Please get in touch and tell us what you know.”
