Huascar Brazobán might be David Stearns’ best Mets trade

The trade barely registered with Mets fans.

This was two years ago on July 30, when Huascar Brazobán arrived from the Marlins in exchange for minor league infielder Wilfredo Lara. At that point, Brazobán was a 34-year-old reliever who had enjoyed a few nice seasons in Miami, but wasn’t deemed special.

Now an indispensable piece of the Mets bullpen, the right-hander stands among the best trade acquisitions of president of baseball operations David Stearns’ three seasons.

Brazobán owns a 1.91 ERA in 32 appearances this season after recording a scoreless inning in Thursday’s win in Philadelphia. He’s joined Luke Weaver to give the Mets a superb 1-2 combo in the setup role leading into closer Devin Williams.
