Jared said, “One way to clean and whiten the grout is by use of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Mix the two ingredients to create a thick paste.”
Hydrogen peroxide is a disinfectant with antifungal properties that can get into grout to kill the mould spores without damaging the tiles.
It is often used in toothpaste as it is a whitening agent, so it will both clean stains and lighten grout to make your bathroom look brighter.
Many people use bleach to clean tiles, but it can release a lot of toxic fumes into a bathroom and can also erode grout over time, which can cause it to crack.
Hydrogen peroxide is a more gentle substance that will not leave any harmful residue as it simply breaks down into water and oxygen.
Baking soda helps enhance the cleaning powers of hydrogen peroxide as it is abrasive, which helps get into any grime to scrub it away without scratching the surface.
How to use hydrogen peroxide to clean bathroom tiles
To begin, add a few teaspoons of baking soda to a bowl and then slowly pour in enough hydrogen peroxide to create a thick, smooth paste.
Do not worry if the solution bubbles, as it is simply the ingredients working together, and the movement can help the solution penetrate the grout deeply.
Put on a pair of cleaning gloves and place this paste on any stained grout on your tiles. Let the solution sit on the tiles for roughly five to 10 minutes. This gives the cleaning solution time to break down the mould or any stains sitting in the tiles.
Once the time is up, use a bristled brush or an old toothbrush to gently scrub at the grout, and the stains should easily lift any mould or dirt.
After scrubbing, rinse the tiles with warm water to remove the paste and then wipe with a dry cloth to remove any excess moisture.
Your bathroom tiles should now look pristine and bright without any stains at all, so your bathroom looks much more hygienic in just 15 minutes.
