Roast potatoes are not only a delicious part of a Sunday roast, but they can also be cooked as a tasty side to accompany meat and fish.

Instead of waiting for potatoes to boil and then roast, I found that cooking them in the air fryer works very well but there is one important ingredient to use on them.

For this recipe, I took inspiration from cooking enthusiast Sarah Rossi of the Taming Twins food blog with her “easiest ever” air fryer roast potatoes.

She claimed that adding a little flour will enhance how crispy the roast potatoes come out and I was surprised at how well it worked. It also helped the oil and seasoning stick.

To give this recipe a go, I used Swan’s Retro 8L Dual Basket Air Fryer which is currently on sale for £99.99 down from £129.99.

As one reviewer on the Swan site described it, this air fryer has a nostalgic feel that comes in several different colours that pastel lovers will adore. I love the green shade it comes in as it adds a nice pop of colour.

Swan’s Retro 8L Dual Basket Air Fryer

Despite being a dual-basket air fryer, it doesn’t take as much space as I initially thought it would have. The air fryer comes complete with two drawers and two nonstick racks.

Aside from washing the drawers and inserts, the Swan Retro 8L Dual Basket Air Fryer arrived all set up and ready to go.

Ingredients (serves two)

450g potatoes, peeled and cut in half/quarters

One tablespoon of vegetable oil

One tablespoon of plain flour

Half a teaspoon of onion granules

Salt, to taste

Method

I started by peeling and chopping the potatoes into around four to six-centimetre pieces. Any larger and it can be tricky to get them cooked in the middle. Go for the kind that when roasted is soft and fluffy on the inside but crispy on the outside like Maris Pipers.

I then put the potatoes in a large bowl, added the oil, flour and onion granules and gave it all a mix.

I then put the potatoes into one of the baskets and gave everything a good shake. While the baskets appeared small at first glance, they were surprisingly big as there was still plenty of space after the potatoes had been added.

It was then time to cook the potatoes. With eight pre-set functions that appear on the touch-screen control panel, it’s easy to navigate.

I opted for the air fryer function and set the right-hand basket to 190C for 10 minutes. While the recipe calls for you to give the potatoes a shake after the time is up, after a few minutes, the air fryer automatically gives you a shake reminder on the screen and emits a beeping sound.

I then left the potatoes to cook at the same temperature for a further five minutes before giving them another vigorous shake. At this point, the potatoes were crisping up nicely.

As I was cooking salmon with the roast potatoes, I decided to test out the dual cook feature.

With the potatoes in the right-hand basket, I set it to 190C for 15 minutes and the salmon in the left-hand basket to the same temperature but for just eight minutes.

This allowed both the roast potatoes and salmon to finish cooking at the same time without either ending up cold or overcooked.

I then finished off the potatoes by sprinkling on some sea salt before serving with the salmon. While these air fryer roast potatoes are not exactly the same as traditional roasties, they do have a great texture and taste without any effort.

The Retro 8L Dual Basket Air Fryer combines user-friendly features, chic retro-inspired design, and reliable performance, making it a standout air fryer for both style and functionality.

While its larger size may be a consideration for smaller kitchens, its dual-basket capacity and ease of use make it ideal for families and multitasking meals. Overall, it offers excellent value for those looking for an efficient and attractive addition to their kitchen.

There are alternative air fryers on the market if you’re after dual basket options. The Ninja Double Stack XL Air  Fryer retails for £269.99 which Express.co.uk have previously reviewed.

At a similar price to the Swan air fryer, there is the Beko ExpertFry Dual Zone Air Fryer which costs £100. However, Express.co.uk did find this one is slightly larger so it could be a drawback for those with smaller kitchens.
