If you’ve prepared a rather large batch of pancakes on Pancake Day before, you’ve probably found that by the next day, they’ve lost their crispy edges and become a damp, unappetising mess. Whether you go for classic lemon and sugar or drizzle your pancakes in rich maple syrup, there’s a simple trick to keep them fresh for up to five days without them turning soggy.

Vlatka Lake, storage expert at Space Station, has shared exclusively with Express.co.uk her top tips for preserving your pancakes and preventing any dreaded sogginess. “Before you begin to prep them for storage, you must allow your pancakes to fully cool,” advised Vlatka.

“This will stop them from sticking together, as well as helping to prevent any condensation which will cause your pancakes to go soggy or mouldy.”

Once your pancakes are completely cooled, it’s time to put in a little extra effort in order to pack them away properly.

Vlatka recommends stacking your pancakes carefully in a resealable plastic bag or airtight container, but with a crucial step in between, highlighting: “Place a clean sheet of wax or baking paper between each pancake.”

This simple technique might not seem important, but it keeps pancakes from sticking together while maintaining their fluffy, airy texture.

If you’re hoping to enjoy your pancakes for several days, simply pop the container in the fridge.

“They should stay fresh and tasty for up to five days,” clarified Vlatka, allowing you to enjoy your pancakes all week.

Vlatka suggests freezing pancakes for those who have more time or want to preserve them for a longer period.

She said: “If you’re looking to store your pancakes for a longer period, you can also place the container in the freezer, where they can be kept frozen for up to two months.”

This means that even if you overindulge on Shrove Tuesday, you can savour your pancakes far beyond the festivities while preventing unnecessary waste.
