How to clean skirting boards fast for longer with 1 natural item that repels dust

There are a few chores around the house that many people just put off for as long as possible, and cleaning skirting boards is one of them. It can be easy for skirting boards to get overlooked. They can simply be forgotten about, or you may mistakeny think that skirting board cleaning is going to be a long and difficult process. You might not need to clean your skirting boards every week but over time they can become quite dirty and dusty if you’re not too careful.

However, a cleaning enthusiast on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page found one item that works “quickly” to remove dust for longer and claimed that she wished she had “tried it ages ago”. Natasha Hill recommended that her fellow cleaning fans should use tumble dryer sheets to rid skirting boards and silicone sealants of dust.

She wrote: “As you can see from the picture I have thick white silicone around my skirting boards. The dust that sticks to it is the bane of my life!

“I usually just use a damp cloth but the dust sticks to the silicone and it takes forever so I thought I would try cleaning it with tumble dryer sheets.

“I honestly cannot tell you how quick it is to clean now. The dust must stick to them, and when I wipe it, it’s gone instead of the dust sticking to the silicone.

“Nothing I’ve used has worked to keep the dust away for longer. This is a game-changer for me and I wish I had tried it ages ago.”

Tumble dryer sheets are packed with antibacterial properties and are perfect for repelling dust as well as odours, so you don’t need to clean as frequently.

They also leave a fresh scent behind and make your room smell great. Sure, using a tumble dryer sheet isn’t conventional, but it will give your skirting boards a shiny and new look

Group members in the comments shared their thoughts on this. Lindsay Whitcher wrote: “This is what I use to do all my polishing works amazing and smells good too.”

Sarah Lowings said: “Works amazingly on windows, furniture and skirting boards and makes home smell amazing!”

Li Coulthard added: “I tried this recently thanks to this group and used it on all of my painted woodwork. As you say game-changer.”
