Detectives are quizzing a man after a woman was allegedly raped in an alleyway, right opposite a police station. The alleged rape took place in an alleyway between Chatsworth Road and the Guildbourne Centre in Worthing, West Sussex, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Officers said in an update issued this morning that they have carried out enquiries in the area to uncover what occurred in the alleged incident, believed to have taken place between 3am and 4am. Police investigating the alleged rape have since arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with the incident. The man is currently in custody.

Worthing Police Station is also on Chatsworth Road – directly opposite the Guildbourne Centre.

In a statement, Detective Inspector Gary Jacobs, who is leading the investigation, said Sussex Police is supporting the alleged victim and has asked people who believe they may have information regarding the incident to contact the service.

Detective Inspector Jacobs said: “We are supporting the victim and we will be maintaining a presence in the area as we continue our investigation.

“We appreciate the support the public has given us in our house-to-house enquiries.”

The investigator added that police are seeking CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage from the Chatsworth Road area from between 3am to 4am on the day of the incident.

He said: “We urge anyone who has yet to contact us with information or CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage in the area of Chatsworth Road between 3am and 4am to contact us on 101 or online, quoting Op Morley.”
