Horrifying destruction of three car written off after jump start goes wrong

Three cars have been written off after they were burnt out by a fire – caused by a jump start that went badly wrong.

Fire crews were called to Talisman Walk in Tiptree, Essex, just after 3.30pm on Tuesday to reports of a vehicle fire.

When they arrived, they discovered three cars ablaze.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service said the fire started while one of the cars was being given a jump start and it soon spread around the vehicle to two others.

Station Manager Terry Maher said: “Luckily no one was injured but unfortunately, due to the damage caused, all three vehicles have been written off.”

The service issued a warning to motorists to check their equipment before trying a jump start.

Mr Maher added: “While it’s not uncommon for people to jump-start their cars, you need to be really careful and have good knowledge about how to do it properly.

“If you’re not sure how to do it, don’t risk it, and seek professional advice. Always double-check with your car manufacturer’s handbook for instructions.”

The AA advises a jump start can be dangerous if a motorists tries to jump start a damaged or leaking vehicle battery.
