High protein spinach and sausage soup is low carb and can 'turbocharge weight loss'

Soup can be tasty, nutritious and extra filling when made with the right protein-rich ingredients.

While popular flavours like cream of tomato, potato and minestrone taste great, they’re not the healthiest options.

One food blogger has found the perfect recipe for a low-carbohydrate and high-protein meal that’s great for winter.

Sharing the formula on the blog All Nutritious, Karo claimed: “Adding more protein to your diet can boost weight loss even more. Turbocharge your weight loss by having more soup!”

Her recipe for spinach and sausage soup is keto-friendly and takes just 25 minutes to make from start to finish.

Heat the butter or ghee in a saucepan over medium to high heat, then add the sliced sausage and diced onion.

Cook the sausage until it starts to brown and the onion softens, stirring everything often. This should take around six to eight minutes, after which the garlic should be added.

Fry the garlic in the pan for just one minute before adding the bone broth and crushed red pepper flakes, then bring everything to a boil.

Cover the saucepan, turn the heat down to a simmer and leave to bubble away for just five minutes.

At the end of this time, stir in the spinach and leave it to wilt, stirring everything constantly for two minutes before removing it from the heat.

Stir in the cream just before serving, and season with more salt and pepper to taste. Serve with fresh lemon wedges to squeeze into the soup if desired.

Allow any leftovers to cool and store in an airtight container for up to two days.
