It’s been four years since the MCU suffered its first dud with 2021’s Eternals.
Despite an impressive ensemble cast led by Angelina Jolie, the blockbuster was Marvel Studios’ first green splat on Rotten Tomatoes.
Any chance of Eternals 2 is now dead, with studio boss Kevin Feige confirming last year that there were no plans, although if you read on, it’s reportedly still in the works in another form.
Whatever the case, what about that end credits scene cameo featuring Harry Styles in his MCU debut?
The pop superstar briefly played Eros aka Starfox, the brother of Thanos, for less than a minute. But four years on, and we’ve heard nothing more of the singer turned Hollywood actor’s role… until now.
Reliable Marvel scooper Main Middle Man has leaked on X that Eternals was set to be a major part of the MCU storyline going forward. However, they claim the backlash and pandemic set this right back, including any chance of a sequel. Although they added that “the ridiculous idea of an animated sequel is unfortunately real”. At least, Marvel Studios has been narratively consistent by including the giant Tiamut corpse in the ocean as part of Captain America: Brave New World this year. As for Styles showing up again as Eros, the scooper didn’t have much positive to say.
The leaker claimed: “Harry Styles, who will certainly be replaced by an actor if Starfox ever returns.” Although they added: “You’ll still see some of these characters around if all goes well, but the importance and influence they would have had before is zero today.” If fans are lucky, perhaps Marvel will have some of the Eternals, maybe even including Styles, show up for cameos in Avengers Doomsday or Avengers Secret Wars.
