With Wales set for a spell of sunshine, now is the perfect opportunity to book a seaside camping trip and soak up the sun’s warm rays and refreshing sea air. But with numerous stunning campsites to choose from, selecting the ideal spot can be tricky.
One idyllic location that may have gone unnoticed is Mwnt Camping, a laid-back eco-campsite in West Wales, just a stone’s throw from the beach. This picturesque site has captured our attention with its breathtaking countryside views and eco-friendly ethos. As a family-friendly and dog-free campsite, Mwnt Camping offers an intimate camping experience with just ten well-spaced pitches for tents and small campervans, a furnished bell tent, and a cosy caravan.
The meadow campsite also features two duck ponds, with partial sea views visible through the hedgerow.
Since December 2023, Mwnt Camping has become part of the Eco Camping Club, which was also founded by the campsite’s founders.
The Welsh Government recognises the Eco Camping Club as an organisation that promotes outdoor leisure activities, reports Wales Online.
According to their website, the club’s ethos is “to meet the needs of visitors who are concerned about the impact that their leisure and recreational activities might have on the environment.”
Mwnt Camping boasts of selling organic duck and chicken eggs from its charming pet flock, which visitors can feed. It also has a polytunnel where it cultivates organic vegetables, which campers can tour and purchase.
For those seeking an eco-friendly camping experience in Wales, simply arrive, select your pitch and prepare for a breathtaking sundowner over the expansive meadows.
Bell tent glamping, complete with a bed and other convenient amenities, is offered for those desiring a hassle-free camping trip.
Near the campsite is the stunning Mwnt beach, one of several sites managed by the National Trust in the vicinity. This beautifully secluded beach is nestled under the shadow of Mwnt’s renowned cliffs.
Mwnt takes its name from Foel y Mwnt, a conical hill towering above this popular location. A climb to the top is essential when visiting, and it offers panoramic views over Cardigan Bay.
Cardigan Bay is considered one of Wales’ most underrated stretches of coastline. In 2023, Time Out magazine even dubbed its main town, Cardigan, the “most underrated” spot in west Wales.
Both Mwnt and Cardigan are perfect for spotting bottlenose dolphins and porpoises, and if you’re particularly lucky, you might even spot some seal pups.
Their breeding season runs from August to December, and they are frequently seen on beaches or rocky outcrops along the coast.
Near Mwnt Bay, you’ll be able to discover Caban Mwnt, decorated with vibrant buckets and spades, lollies and ice cream menus, and boasting one of the best beach views.
This family-run cabin serves mouth-watering cheese toasties, ice cream and freshly brewed coffee roasted at Tan-y-Groes’ Cardigan Bay Roaster.
For seafood lovers, the harbour towns are a must-visit, offering boat trips and access to the Ceredigion Coast Path, a stunning section of the 870-mile Wales Coast Path.
